Socks worn by all NFL teams manufactured in Logan
LOGAN, Utah (KUTV) — All of the socks worn by NFL players for all of the league’s 32 teams come from a warehouse in Logan, Utah.
WaltUSA has been manufacturing the socks for years and 2News got a behind-the-scenes look at the process.
“We make the socks that the NFL actually uses during game time,” said Michelle Herring, Knitting Production Manager at WaltUSA’s Logan facility.
Herring walked 2News’ Brian Schnee through the process beginning in a massive warehouse room filled with boxes of yarn.

“This the yarn room it all starts here, yarn gets sent out in these boxes, it’s all automated,” said Herring. “Every morning we send out all these boxes and it’s got yarn in it, and it goes to the machine.”
The yarn type is key to the style of sock.
“This is special for NFL because it’s a sticky yarn, so it helps the athlete’s foot not slip in his shoe,” said Herring while showing off a specific type of yarn.

Another massive room in the warehouse is filled with rows and rows of machines that use the spools of yarn to make the socks.
“We do different colors and patterns, and it all depends on the team,” said Herring. “We do have three major socks that we do and it’s the 592 which is an ankle and then we do a crew, and we do over the calf.”
The company also makes sleeves to be worn over the calf. In total; hundreds of sock sizes, colors, and varieties for the NFL alone.
The socks are made in the machines. Then they’re weighed, washed, pressed, and folded. Eventually they’re ‘branded’ with the official NFL logo. Before leaving the facility, they’re run through a metal detector to ensure quality and safety before shipping to Nike and eventually, each NFL team.
