22 Questions with an Olympian and New Pro

Parker Valby had a year to remember in 2024. During her senior season as a Florida Gator, she set two collegiate records—in the 5,000 meters (14:52.79) and 10,000 meters (30:50.43)—and made the U.S. Olympic team in the latter event. At the Paris Games, Valby placed 11th in 30:59.28 and was the youngest runner in the top 15.

So, we asked Valby to share where she stands on Runner’s World’s “This or That” topics.

You can read Valby’s answers in yellow, then let us know where you land on the subject. You’ll see the overall percentage results from our community once you select your answer.

Rain or Snow

High Socks or Low Socks

VALBY EXPLAINS: “High socks all the way! No blisters, and they’re fun to wear with fun designs—like smiley faces—to remind me running is supposed to be fun. They also keep the Achilles warm in the cold, too.”

Protein Bar or Protein Shake

Ice Bath or Sauna

Spikes or Flats

TikTok or Instagram

VALBY EXPLAINS: “TikTok is the ultimate app for creativity and pure entertainment. It’s honestly tragic that it’s at risk of being deleted.”

Sun or Shade

VALBY EXPLAINS: “Getting that perfect tan, soaking up some vitamin D, and vibing in the warmth is everything. Plus, photosynthesizing like a plant is fun and necessary.”

Data or Vibes

VALBY EXPLAINS: “There’s something powerful about tuning in to your body and going with what feels right in the moment. Sure, data has its place, but sometimes overthinking can throw off your rhythm. Trusting my instincts is what gets me across the finish line.”
